The Traditional NFA Gun Trust is a revocable trust that provides the flexibility of allowing multiple responsible parties, or trustees, to legally have possession of the suppressor (or other NFA items listed on the trust). This traditional NFA trust is designed to hold multiple NFA items, so you only pay one trust fee (take a look at our Single Shot Trust for the benefits of using one trust per item).
Once the gun trust is purchased, you will receive a short and simple questionnaire with instructions on completing your trust. After you’ve completed the questionnaire, you’ll receive your trust via email, which will require you to print, sign, and have it notarized. The trust will also include instructions on how to add and/or remove successor trustees, NFA items, and beneficiaries. All trustees added to the trust must be 18 years or older. If you want to add (transfer) NFA items to the trust in the future, all trustees must submit their fingerprints, photos, and other identifying information with the new ATF Form 4 application.
Lastly, your account will need to be updated to reflect that you want to file under a trust. This can easily be adjusted in your account login, or you can give us a call and we can make the switch for you. If you’re a first-time customer be sure to select “Traditional NFA Gun Trust” when you set up your Silencer Shop account. Once you have your firearm trust complete, you will either upload your trust into your Silencer Shop account or you can email it to trust@silencershop.com with your order number in the subject line. Your trust will be added to all later purchases made through Silencer Shop unless you designate a different filing type. It’s truly as simple as that!

There is a lawyer that can provide technical support for this trust; but, they cannot give legal advice since this is a do-it-yourself form option. If you prefer to work with a lawyer, please visit our lawyer referral page. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a quick and easy gun trust without spending as much money, this is a great option!
This form is not legal advice and is to be used at your own discretion. Consultation with an attorney is highly recommended and this form is not a substitute for appropriate legal advice in your state.
Frequently Asked NFA Gun Trust Questions:
1. What is a Traditional NFA Gun Trust and who can be a trustee?
A Traditional National Firearms Act Gun Trust is a revocable trust allowing multiple trustees to legally possess NFA items listed on the trust, such as suppressors and any other NFA weapons. Trustees must be at least 18 years old and comply with all applicable legal requirements. If the trust wants to make or take a transfer of an NFA item, all current trustees must submit fingerprints, photos, and other identifying information at the time the NFA application (Form 1 or Form 4) is filed.
2. How do I complete and submit my Traditional NFA Gun Trust?
After purchasing the trust, complete the provided questionnaire and receive your trust via email. Print, sign, and notarize the document, then update your account to reflect filing under a trust. You can upload the finalized trust to your Silencer Shop account or email it with your order number to ensure it's added to all purchases.
3. How do the federal government, state law, and the tax stamp process affect my NFA Gun Trust?
The trust must comply with both federal and state laws regarding NFA items. Trustees are responsible for obtaining a tax stamp for each NFA item, requiring an ATF form application and a $200 fee per item. The trust simplifies this process by legally holding all NFA items and allowing multiple trustees to possess them.
4. Can I add or remove trustees and beneficiaries after the trust is finalized?
Yes, you can add or remove any lawfully responsible person or registered owner with an addendum provided by Silencer Shop at no additional cost. This flexibility allows for changes to the trust without needing to create a new one, ensuring your trust stays up-to-date with your needs.
